I’m sure you guys missed my Behind the Lens series, but thankfully, it’s back! This time around I decided to tap on Milan based fashion photographer Omar Macchiavelli, who is known for his edgy photographs which captures a series of timeless emotions within them. After High School, Omar attended university DAMS of “Arts and Multimedia Technology,” and honed his undying love for photography. Check out his interview below.
Omar, how old are you, and where are you from?
I am 30 years old and I am from Italy.
What was it like growing up?
I grew up in a lovely family who taught me the important values of life. My parents supported my choices, and I was lucky to know people who were really a part of me, like my brother and some friends. After a difficult period at High School, (90′s urban life wasn’t exactly colorful) I focused all my energies to transforming my passion into work. I began studying Art History and Photography at University, and I started working full-time in the fashion industry.
Did you always like photography or fashion?
I loved photography since I was a child. Photography for me has evolved and was loaded with lots of meanings when I started to travel, realizing it’s ability to simplify my feelings in a frame. When I started working in the world of fashion, I immediately appreciated the chemistry between the two arts.
Who would you say has grown to be your all time photographer or photographers?

As soon as the week passed, I simply said onto the next one and readied myself to unleash another exclusive interview with one of fashion’s amazing photographers. (Of my generation of course) I was elated when David agreed to do this interview, simply because he and I are around the same age, and I get excited about people who have the same enthusiasm about success and reaching their goals like I do. With a mind made up and a great future ahead, David and his Canon 5D Mark II has never failed to capture a great moment in the life of his fashion career. Shooting with various models and agencies, David has been the boy behind the camera for many editorial spreads and features. Seemingly having a love for black & white photography, he never fails to amass all the emotion within his subject, and whether boy or girl, his sense of youthfulness always shines through.
So I’ve finally decided to launch the new column on my blog, which comes after much work and anticipation. I was pretty excited for it, and with the first series out, I can’t wait for you guys to see all that’s in store. For quite some time now, this incredible man has made his way on to my short list of favorite fashion photographers, and gladly, I had the opportunity to get to know him a bit more. With photography that in my opinion inspires many with his creative approach, I’ve grown to appreciate all the hard work that he puts in, to achieve results which are beyond amazing! One thing I’ve realized over the last few months is that more and more people are entering the world of photography, in search of success, and some aren’t putting in effort at all. Nonetheless, (like someone at an editorial meeting said yesterday) “one can definitely separate the sheep from the goats.” With his Hasselblat H3D 39, Dimitris has captured the covers of many magazines, editorial spreads with some of fashion’s biggest models and has been a Tumblr phenomenon. Having photographed some of my favorite models including Rob Evans, Marlon Teixeira, Tony Ward, Baptiste Giabiconi and Leebo Freeman, he has made more than a name for himself within the fashion industry, and whether in New York, Paris or back home in London, he’s always keeping us on the edge with his stunning photography.
