You guys know me and my periodic magazine spread posts… Either I’m heavily inspired by the images, or swooning over every pose and the pieces worn by the model(s). Over the last few days, I’ve been falling madly in love with the Spring/Summer 2012 sportswear trend, that showed up in loads of collections, from Alexander Wang to 3.1 Philip Lim. What better way then to celebrate it, but by posting this incredible magazine spread from the June 2012 issue of Flare magazine. Featuring model Bekah Jenkins, and shot by photographer Chris Nicholls in the island of Jamaica, the spread captures the blue-haired stunner wearing the likes of Rag & Bone, Vera Wang and Altuzarra, and backed by sharp, bold color. The fashionably athletic looks were styled by the magazine’s fashion editor Elizabeth Cabral, while Bekah’s cerulean hair and striking orange eye shadow, was done by beauty artist Simone Otis.
Model Of The Moment | Graham Scaife
Change for me is always a good thing. If at first it’s not accepted, coming to terms with change is something that is inevitable. Besides the little life lesson those words could give, my Model Profile column will now be “Model Of The Moment”. I know that’s nothing major, but I just felt as though I should officially mention it. I initially chose Model Profile because it’s the simplest thing, but it’s honestly so used!
Anyway, I got the opportunity to talk to someone whom I first discovered on the Daily Duo of Models.com. Graham Scaife is his name, and his perfect looks were more than recognizable. Standing 6 feet tall, the New Moston, Manchester native is certainly off to a good start in the industry. At a shocking age of 17, Graham has been so far signed to Boss Model Management, as well as Nevs Models London. Apart from me almost passing out when he mentioned his age, I was glad to see that at such a young age, he had his goals as his focus, especially his education at Hopwood Hall College.

How old are you, and where are you from?
I am 17 and I’m from New Moston, Manchester.
17? Okay, now I feel old! Haha. How did your career as a model begin?
Haha! I started my career walking through Manchester. I got asked to model for MIX-D modeling competition, which is a competition for mix-race people. I felt a bit silly in front of my friends, but I took a few pictures anyway and I ended up making it to the top 10 boys! I went on to win the competition which got me a contract with Boss Model Management.
Did you always want to become a model?
NO! Not at all! I’m not big-headed, I never looked in the mirror and thought that I was fit and should become a model. I actually took the pictures thinking nothing would come out of it, but I’m the type of person to take opportunities when they come my way and modeling is a fantastic opportunity.
What do you consider so far as your biggest life achievement?
Oooo this is a hard one… I would say modeling at London Fashion week was my biggest achievement so far. That was the first time I really got noticed in modeling and the feeling I got from seeing myself in newspapers was truly AMAZING!
What about your challenges? Have you had any in the industry?
My biggest challenge in the industry is trying to balance college and modeling together. This year it’s been really hard because only a few months ago I was not earning any money from modeling, since I didn’t have many pictures in my portfolio, so I had to go back and forth from London on the coach while I was in college three days a week. That was horrible! I was spending 13 hours on the coach in one day, and that was every time I went up. But I enjoy the experience of London and I got great pictures back.
I for one think that you would be a great Givenchy model. Are you interested in working with any particular designer labels or magazines?
I would love to model for Givenchy! I have high ambitions in modeling, so I aim to work for all the top designers and magazines. I don’t see the point in doing something if you’re not going to try to make the most of it.
How did you feel about your appearance in GQ Style?
When I first found out, I didn’t even know what GQ was. I wasn’t much of a magazine guy, but when I got told how big it was, I was in shock and at the same time, honored. I just thought I better not do anything stupid to mess it up.
How do you feel about London’s upcoming menswear fashion week Spring/Summer 13?
I can’t wait for it! I’m going down to London to cast so I will hopefully get a few shows.
Great! I know you will get some for sure! So my last question: what are a few things you enjoy doing, and things you treasure the most?
I really enjoy playing football. I represented Manchester for 2 years playing against other cities around England and now I just play for fun with a local team of friends. If I had to say what I treasure most it would have to be my money. I’m really tight with it. I organize how to spend every penny and make it last as long as possible. I even try to con my mum to get more money out of her, but it doesn’t work, because she’s worse than me. Opps! I hope she doesn’t see this. Haha!

A Tribute to Prada
I thought I would share this very cool image from the May 2012 issue of Vogue US, featuring Daria Strokous, Daphne Groeneveld, Joan Smalls, Coco Rocha, Karen Elson, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Guinevere Van Seenus, Liya Kebede, and Caroline Trentini, photographed by Steven Meisel and all styled in looks from past Prada seasons. It’s funny how my last post focused on Prada, and now this. But it’s really no surprise why I may be obsessed… Prada is just good! Anyway, excuse my lack of posts, which is a result of exams. I’m not really in the mood to even do them, but I won’t waste an entire semester of attending classes by staying home. Alla prossima!
A Spread to Love From Interview Russia
My friend Junior, who appeared alongside me and a few other bloggers for M People Barbados issue 7, was the first person to introduce me to Hanne Gaby Odiele. Ever since then, I’ve been addicted to her incredible style, and her striking look. While browsing the web a few days ago, I noticed a spread with Hanne and Alana Zimmer for Interview Russia April 2012. Shot by photographer Steven Pan and styled by Karen Kaiser, the stunning editorial features a spew of 50′s inspired pieces from the likes of Balenciaga, Prada, Jil Sander and Valentino, worn by the beautiful duo. With edgy bobs, the two live a liberated life that includes lounging by the pool, chatting on the phone and taking meds… haha! Anyway, I love it!

Sellah | The New Movement

Rewinding a few weeks back, when I knew absolutely nothing about the talented guys I’m about to introduce to you, I was a bit hesitant when my friend Omar from London asked me to do him a favor and interview these budding music icons, who evidently have an eye for fashion. After I presented my first of many Feature post to come, on Barbadian group A Few Good Men, I decided to take the risk once more, and here I am, bringing to you Sellah!
Sellah is a duo of Michael 22, and Lewis 17, who form what they describe as simply two individuals fighting for the same cause. The group made an unexpected start just this year, after Lewis who is signed to Red Models New York, met Mike at a photo shoot. The two, had exchanged their contact info at that shoot, and as a result of their growing passion for music, they formed Sellah. “We initially started making music together for the fun of it, but when I was in the process of editing Michael’s vocals, I always had so many ideas going through my head. We were both just really excited to make something truly great,” said Lewis.

The word of itself, which is originally spelt ‘Selah,’ basically means to be free’d from.“One night around 3AM, I woke up and although it was like a dream, I felt everything,” says Michael. “The word ‘Selah’ came to my head and right away I went to my Macbook and searched the meaning of Selah. We added the extra ‘L,’ in order to make it our own and not religiously based for safe keeps. We made Sellah official this month after Lewis and I decided what sound and message we wanted to bring.” The Movement basically means that they speak everything through their sound. Which both Lewis and Michael feel is the best way to touch and inspire people. Whether you’re sad, happy, angry, or excited, they push to connect to every human emotion.
Becoming great friends with Michael over time, allowed me to realize his drive, and encounter his constant words of inspiration. Being a self-taught photographer, the owner of IMMO Magazine and World Models, as well as a former model, who has done the likes of fashion week, his story is full of experiences that has made him the man he is today, and allows him to impart into the lives of many others around him. The younger of the two Lewis, always seemed reserved from inception, but being an enthusiastic youngster, his talents stood out the moment I listened to the group’s first single “Not Enough.” Lewis is inspired by the elements of nature, as well as the culture that strives toward the future. Lewis declares that the raver party culture inspires him to make music that makes people feel good both in the club and in their hearts.
My ultimate question was how fashion coincides with the group. However, as Sellah is all about expressing themselves through their sound, it was quite obvious that their personal style would have to be in check! Fashion on its own, is all about self-expression through your image. Image is everything and an artist with the wrong image will not sell. Even if it’s from being in a T-shirt and jeans, you must own what you bring. Michael perfectly said, ”alike our sound, Sellah‘s fashion will constantly evolve. And since Lewis is now a model and I am a former model, this adds to the equation.”
Without a doubt, I look forward to seeing these two progress on their journey to success. I think that both guys have got what it takes to become world-renowned, and I will do whatever I can, to assist them in that dream. Make sure you stop by their Facebook Page, Tumblr and Twitter, to stay connected with The Movement.

It’s astounding to think about the time that has gone, since my last Style Icon interview, but that space gave me time to re-focus, as well as to advance the way that I present them. We all know that although fashion and style co-exist, there is a major difference between them both. Style in its simplicity, is the way or manner in which something is done or expressed. Therefore, all my style icons possess a great deal of stylistic sense, executing every outfit they wear to perfection, with confidence and boldness. Every fashion season, I look forward to travelling, attending the shows, having fun with friends and shopping. Street Style has only recently boomed in the industry, and with blogs like All The Pretty Birds, Le 21ème Arrondissement and even Tumblr, it is becoming increasingly popular among our generation. One face that I’ve gotten to know over the past year, is that of Mboko Ndimba Mobutu, who has been appearing on tons of blogs from StreetFSN to Tommy Ton’s Jak & Jil and whom I can proudly say is one of my biggest style icons. His classic yet edgy style is one that has never ceased to catch my attention, and amaze me time after time. Just after the hype of Paris Fashion Week, the 22-year-old Paris-based stylist and editor of Be Magazine and Online publication, GHUBAR Magazine, agreed to an interview with yours truly; where I got to know more about his personal life and style.
